In addition to 19 years of experience as an IUPUI academic advisor, Lester Cook also brings to the Degree Completion Office his own experience as an adult learner. At age 38, Lester returned to school and completed his bachelor’s degree in psychology. His experience as an adult student inspired him to change career paths so that he could dedicate his professional life to helping other adult learners earn their degrees, first as an academic advisor to general studies students and now as a success coach. After completing his bachelor’s degree, Lester earned Master’s degrees in Higher Education Administration and in Adult Education.

Lester spent his early career in the military (15 years active duty, National Guard), and then in the aerospace industry as a tool and die maker. He also served as a volunteer firefighter/EMT from 1991 to 2012.

Desiree Jaynes says that the best part of her role as a success coach is the relationship she builds with her adult students. Before joining the Degree Completion Office team, Desiree served five years as an academic advisor in both University College and the general studies degree program. Prior to her roles at IUPUI, Desiree worked for eight years at Ivy Tech Community College in a variety of student services roles including admissions, academic advising, and testing and assessment. Her breadth of experience in higher education and her extensive experiences supporting adult students at both Ivy Tech and IUPUI make her an excellent resource and source of motivation and support as she coaches her students to complete their degrees at IUPUI!
Robin Tew has long been committed to giving back to her community, and is passionate about helping and motivating IUPUI's adult students reach their goals and complete their degrees. To support her students, Robin draws on her broad experiences in public service, her personal experiences as an adult student, and her understanding of the unique needs of adult learners. Before joining the Degree Completion Office team, Robin worked as a student mentor supporting adult learners enrolled in an online university. Her experience providing intensive and personalized support of adult students led to Robin’s deep understanding of what it really takes for adults to stay committed to earning their degree in the face of life’s challenges. Robin earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from IU, Bloomington and her Master’s degree in Counseling and Counselor Education, at IUPUI.
